Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) was a key figure in German Romanticism, best known for his imaginative instrumental color and his development of German opera. His chamber music is comparatively little-known, especially his ''Variations on a Norwegian Tune'', Op.22 (1808). Inspired by piano concertante variations on the same tune, ''Dole-Vise'' by his teache Abbe Vogler, Weber's set of engaging variations for violin and piano is perhaps most notable for its striking harmonic color for both instruments.
