Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) was a key figure in German Romanticism, best known for his imaginative instrumental color and his development of German opera. His chamber music is comparatively little-known, especially his ''Variations on a Norwegian Tune'', Op.22 (1808). Inspired by piano concertante variations on the same tune, ''Dole-Vise'' by his teache Abbe Vogler, Weber's set of engaging variations for violin and piano is perhaps most notable for its striking harmonic color for both instruments. It was premiered by virtuoso violinist and composer Louis Spohr. Suitable for intermediate-advanced players. Edited by Claudia Theis, from the Weber Complete Edition.
