Elena Ruehr (b 1963) is a Cambridge-based American compooser. She studied with William Bolcom and Vincent Persichetti and has taught at MIT since 1991. She finds inspiration from a number of sources, from dance and visual art to poetry and literature. Her music is often colorful, energetic, and communicative.
Ruehr's String Quartet No. 8 ''Insect Dances'' (2020), was written for the Arneis Quartet. It is a delightful collection of light-hearted dances for listeners of all ages, running the gamut between graceful waltzes, fast polkas, and jazzy stomps. Includes parts and score. Advanced level, Grade 5.
