Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was one of the most prominent composers of the Classical period and is often considered one of the greatest composers of Western art music. The classical string quintet-sometimes called a viola quintet, on account of its second viola-- was more or less invented by Michael Haydn, but Mozart fully realized its potential with several works in the genre, spanning from his teenage years to his late period of compositional maturity.
