Piano Quartets (parts and score) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Urtext edition by Ernst Herttrich. Published by Henle

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was one of the most prominent composers of the Classical period and is often considered one of the greatest composers of Western art music. A noted child prodigy, he excelled in all genres. His music is revered for its beauty, clarity, balance, and transparency, underpinned by sophisticated craftsmanship.

Mozart wrote his Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, K.478 (1785) as part of a three-work commission from publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister. It proved to be a departure from Mozart's other chamber works up to that point in its drama, complexity, and demands on the players; as such, Hoffmeister ended the commission, fearing the public would reject it. Mozart went on to write only one more piano quartet, No. 2 in E-flat Major, K.493. Since then, Hoffmeister has proven to be wrong, as they are both regarded as masterpieces and are among Mozart's most beloved chamber works. This Henle urtext edition brings both together in one volume, complete with critical and historical commentary. Scored for piano, violin, viola, and cello. Includes parts and piano score. Advanced level, Grade 5.
