The workshop at Carriage House Violins

Our workshop operates by appointment for all instrument and bow repair and restoration, and availability is limited. Because each player and instrument is unique, we prefer to have a conversation with you to discuss your individual needs and answer any questions you may have. Colin Skofield
Title

A Maryland native, Colin graduated from Oberlin College where he studied cello and viola da gamba. His passion for music and handcraft led him to the violin making program at the North Bennet Street School in Boston.

He apprenticed in several well-known workshops including William Monical & Son in New York, Paul Wiessmeyer Violins in Boston, and Johnson String Instrument in Newton, Massachusetts before joining Carriage House Violins as a journeyman in 2011.

His instruction under numerous masters has provided him with a wide variety of techniques and approaches to instrument repair and restoration. He also has a particular fascination with the viol and pre-modern violin families that he looks forward to sharing.
