William Laney

San Francisco based cellist, William Laney is a dynamic chamber musician and educator whose playing reflects a deep commitment to expressive collaboration and artistic excellence. An advocate for chamber music, William has performed with distinguished artists such as violinists Benjamin Beilman, Itamar Zorman, Wonhee Bae, violist Dimitri Murath, and pianists Robert McDonald and Shai Wosner, among others. He has been a part of the award winning Alara Ensemble and Ensemble SONE, and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Symphony Hall and the Museum of Fine Arts. His passion for education has taken him internationally, including a guest masterclass at Universidad Mayor Conservatorio de Música in Santiago, Chile. William draws on his extensive experience as a chamber musician and soloist to help clients find instruments that best express their unique musical voice.

William’s principal teachers have included Jennifer Culp, Philippe Muller, Rhonda Rider, and Robert Jesselson, as well as extensive chamber music studies with violinist Sylvia Rosenberg. He holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and the University of South Carolina.
