The Carnival of Venice, Op.10 for violin and piano by Niccolo Paganini
Published by International Edition. Edited by Zino Francesca
Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) was the most celebrated virtuoso of the violin of the nineteenth century, if not the entirety of classical music. His works represent a great leap forward for violin technique, showing with glittering pyrotechnics the wide range of capability of the instrument and the modern violinist. He kept his secrets closely guarded and engaged in friendly rivalries with other virtuosos of his time, like Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst.
The Carnival of Venice, Op.10 (1829) is a set of twenty variations on the Neapolitan folk song ''O Mamma, Mamma Cara''. It is a quintessential Paganini showpiece, packed full of dazzling displays of virtuosic bravura. Passages of rapid spicatto, leaps, and trills take center stage, along with novel effects of articulation and left-hand pizzicato. A must-have for any player working thru the works of Paganini. For advanced players. Edited by Zino Francescatti. Includes piano part and pull-out solo part.
