Chrysanthemums & Three Minuets for string quartet by Giacomo Puccini

Published by Ricordi

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) is one the most beloved composers of Italian opera to ever live, known for iconic operas like ''La boheme'', ''Madama Butterfly'', and ''Turandot''. He wrote in the realistic ''verismo'' style, which emphasized relatability and communicative expression above all. His music is characterized primarily by his rich melodic lyricism.

Though primarily known for his operas, Puccini wrote works in other genres, including these early string quartets. The elegiac Chrysanthemums (1890) is his outstanding chamber entry, with sensitive, searching, and intensely personal expression and colored by quietly stunning harmonies. His more modest Three Minuets (1892) are charming divertimentos in the classical style. Includes score and parts. Advanced level, grade 5.
