Poeme, Op.25 for violin and piano by Ernest Chausson
Edited by Zino Francescatti. Published by International
Ernest Chausson (1855-1899) was a French Romantic composer. His work is lyrical and colorful, with moments of drama and introversion-a crucial link between the rich Romanticism of Franck and the symbolism and impressionism of Debussy. He was a discerning and self-conscious composer, so while his completed works are few, they are consistently exceptional.
Chausson's Poeme, Op.25 (1896) for violin and orchestra is his crowning masterpiece. Written for the renowned virtuoso Eugene Ysaye, it quickly became a concert favorite. It is a colorful, alluring, and emotionally gripping rhapsody that continues to enchant violinists today. Master level, Grade 6.
