Paisanos Semos! for solo classical guitar; Tania Leon
- Fingering by Ana Maria Rosado
World-renowned Afro-Latina composer, conductor, and educator Tania Leon (b 1943) has composed for nearly every classical genre. Her music is colorful, complex and substantial, with elements of jazz, gospel music, and Latin styles. In 2021, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her orchestral work ''Stride''.
Leon's ''Paisanos Semos!'' (1986) for solo classical guitar is an homage to peasants that till the soil; its structure is conceived organically by the composer, as sprouting seed which matures, thrives, and slowly dies. It is a significant and substantial addition to the modern guitar repertory.
