Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was the most influential and admired composer of the Romantic Era, and is considered today to be among the greatest composers of classical music to ever live. Around 1800 Beethoven seems to have completely distanced himself from chamber music for wind, showing little regard for his Septet op. 20 and the Sextet op. 71. But he seemed to proud enough of his Trio op.87 - originally for two oboes and cor anglais - to make an additional version for two violins and viola.
